Orkney natural linen is the cornerstone of Rough Linen. It has the traditional texture and color of home- spun domestic European linen – I suspect the mill I use has very old looms for I haven't found this exact texture anywhere else. It is my strongest linen, for bedding, tablecloths, napkins, towels, pinafores and curtains.
The Orkney fabric comes in 6 timeless colours.
The natural colour has the most texture, sometimes with little bits of flax straw in the weave! These are not defects, and soon drop out. The other colors have a slightly more fluid drape from the get-go than the raw, untreated “natural”. They all soften and relax with washing.
Natural will lighten gradually with time and washing. The White is not a processed, optic white, but soft and milky. Over time it, too, lightens, especially with exposure to sun.
