Our signature Orkney Duvet Cover is made from the linen that started it all, the original 'rough' linen. Elemental, timeless, and woven on traditional single-width looms, the Orkney Duvet Cover is made from three pieces joined with minimum seams, and finished with the simplest of buttons, or invisible zippers for minimalists. The unmistakeable texture and weight feels like getting a hug from your comforter.
The undyed Natural color begins with its own clean, crisp texture, and softens with wear and washing to a subtle silvery sheen. We also make them in a just Off-white, Black, Charcoal and Dusk.
Individually cut and crafted in California.
A duvet cover should fit the infill snugly - up to 6" smaller all around - to ensure that it doesn't shift. I have even put a king infill into a queen cover, with cosy results. Please measure your duvet, as infill sizes are not standard.

Material: 100% Linen. Heavyweight "Orkney"
twin 68" wide x 88"
queen 85" wide x 88"
king 106" wide x 90"

Care: Machine wash with a small amount of gentle detergent, not Tide. Tumble dry on hot or medium, and remove from the dryer while still very slightly damp so wrinkles do not set. Shake the fabric out flat and smooth it with your hands. If you can dry outside, let fresh air and sun work their magic.
I had been wanting linen sheets forever and my boyfriend decided to buy them for me for Xmas. From the moment I opened the beautiful package, I knew I was going to love them. My boyfriend then decided he needed a whole new bed and ordered his. I promptly followed up by ordering the duvet in dusk which is a perfect compliment for a chair with homemade slipcovers and my valances. A little luxury goes such a long way and makes me feel like a queen when I go to bed or just walk in the room! Thanks Rough Linen.
- Warmer than I thought (but it is brand new). I hope it airs out more and gets softer. I might need to try with a different blanket but doesn't feel like it could be used as a summer blanket :( - Already has a stain (post wash). I know its white but my moms sheets are STILL white. - Is already softer after 2 washes
I have two of your white Orkney Linen Duvet Covers. My beds are Tempurpedics and the mattresses are tall, so king size duvet covers fit my queen sized beds perfectly. The linen wears beautifully and is the perfect weight to sleep under.
I am familiar with various linen vendors; everything Rough Linen makes is uncompromising and of the highest quality on the market. I love sleeping under this duvet cover, without a top sheet. One needs to make one's peace with "uncompromising". For example, Rough Linen only sells flat sheets, not fitted. This is an ecosystem, that works best together with this duvet cover. A flat bottom sheet gets too tangled to manage if combined with a top sheet. A top sheet is unnecessary with this duvet cover, and the true freedom of movement that comes from leaving out the top sheet is an indescribable joy. That joy fades momentarily, each time one washes the duvet cover. Tricia may indeed have a lifetime of experience stuffing comforters into duvet covers without the help of corner ties. The cruelest moment in La La Land may be when Ryan Gosling opens a performance playing a one-handed toy electric piano; Tricia may feel exactly this way using corner ties. For the rest of us, any modern $400 comforter comes with matching loops, expecting corner ties. I cannot escape introspection in anything I do, a tendency that is only productive in my mathematical research. In the moments of self-loathing as I attempt to fill a duvet cover without the help of corner ties, I psychoanalyze my tendencies that lead me to this impasse. A purist streak draws me to Rough Linen; it is evident in everything they sell. Sleeping under their duvet cover, that purist streak is amply rewarded. Filling the duvet cover after laundry, I am reminded that this purist streak represents a mild neurosis I thought I had under control. I will be sewing corner ties into this duvet cover. They do offer a "zipper" option, which I chose. I will not be buying another duvet cover from Rough Linen until they offer corner ties as an option.
