Tricia's Rough Linen April 2016 Newsletter

March 26, 2016

We have a new Bundle for those of you who want a traditional set (and to save money):
two flat sheets, and two simple pillow slips.
Both sheets are generously sized and flat, so you can rotate them and use them for either top or bottom as you see fit.  Sheets have a handsome 5" top hem, and are perfectly plain.

Pillow slips are housewife style, with an internal 5" tuck to hold the pillow securely and unseen.

Twin Set has Standard pillow slips, Queen Set has Queen pillow slips, both King and Cal King have Kings. If you want smaller, tell us on the order and we will send you the size you want and credit any difference in price.
If you want bolsters, you have the option to add them at a discounted price.  White Sheet Sets will have white Orkney bolsters, natural will have natural bolsters - ask if you want another color.

Sheets and pillow slips come in one fabric (Smooth) and two colors, White or Natural. Bolsters are in Orkney fabric to match the color of your sheets.

Natural is a soft taupe, straight from the field. White has been yarn-bleached for strength, without optical brighteners, so it comes to you a soft off-white, and will lighten with washing and use.

This close-woven, custom-commissioned sheeting is water-finished, no need to wash before use. Allowance is made for shrinkage.

Do we appreciate our windows?  To be able to glance out and see the sky, and some greenery if we're lucky.  An immediate connection with the outside, light, air - imagine a world without glass.
To moderate the visibility glass so generously allows us and passing strangers, the curtain.

The airiest and lightest we offer is Myriad, an open weave which during daytime means you can look out with privacy - quite a different story when your room is lit at night.  There is nothing more enchanting than watching it move in the breeze from a half-opened window.
This bathroom window is dressed and softened with a Myriad panel, and rendered playful with fishing net.

The other three fabrics, Smooth linen, St Barts and Orkney, are opaque, so when they are drawn, you are cocooned.

We have some fun with the colors of St Barts, sewing them in Stripes or leaving the panels plain.
And the classic simplicity of Orkney, in Natural or White.
1.5x ease gives a graceful amount of fabric without looking bunched or skimpy.
I do!

There is a traditional 2" rod casing on all our panels except St. Barts Stripe, but use it to encase the rod only if you never want to adjust your curtains.  Welcome to the versatile skills of the humble ring clip.  It can style your curtain top, adjust length, magically solve the problem of spacing - it can even let you add a blackout liner, almost undetectable.

Hint: To buy online - just google 'drapery ring clips', then search in Images so you can see the style you want.
We now offer all our curtains in both 84" and 96" length as standard, and we happily quote for custom sizes.  Remember, hanging your curtains from the ceiling to the floor will make your rooms look more spacious.  Extend the rod past the edges of your window to make more of your window.
I’ve always loved linen – but before Rough Linen I had a life making corporate documentaries with my husband. Every now and then we would make a movie just for the fun of it. In 2008, we made a film about wine. It was shown at the Sonoma Film Festival to a packed out audience. Maybe the free glasses of Pinot Noir helped?
Back in 2012, we started shooting a story about 150 volunteers building a traditional wooden tall ship based on an 1891 design by local shipwright, Matthew Turner.
We finished part one early this year and its premiere is this month on April 10 in Tiburon, California. Come join us! You can buy tickets on line here.
